bamboo flooring woven bamboo Frequently Asked Questions
Please help -- water seeping up from underneath bamboo floor!!!?
Contractor improperly installed a sink and the pipe leaked for 2 days into the wall and down into our newly installed starnd-woven bamboo flooring. We discovered the leak when water was coming up from the cracks of the planks.
WHAT TO DO?!?! The leak is now fixed but how to prevent damage / further damage to the floors? Is mold going to start growing now? Turn on the heater? Fan? Anything?
Yikes! This is clearly a case where you need to contact his insurance company. In the meantime, If you have open joist paces below that floor, you could drill some holes through the sub floor, which is probably 3/4" thick, and try to drain some of the excess water out.
I would guess mold is possible, but if the leak is truly repaired and things are allowed to dry out, you will probably be O.K. (as far as mold goes). I would be more worried about damage to the floor from the water being in contact with the unfinished underside and having two days to really soak in. Swelling boards will expand and when they dry out you will have gaps between the boards, the grain might get raised on the surface, and I have heard though I'm not sure if it's correct, that bamboo in particular, does not like to get wet. I believe water tends to make the bamboo split. Use the fan(s). De-humidify.
Definitely get his liability insurance company. If none. Either cross your fingers or contact a lawyer.
