cork floorings Frequently Asked Questions
what flooring is good for me? no noise?
I live upstairs, I have carpet flooring that I don't like. I want to replace with something that I could mop easily. I am very concern about noise. I heard cork flooring is the best answer to reduce the noise. But, I like the appearnce of the hard wood more. I want to adopt pets. cats could scratch and damage some floors. what flooring do you recommend that is low maintenance, and quiet and beautiful. I know vinyl is good, does anyone know if there are high quality vinyl floorings in southern calif?
Cork flooring is supposed to be good for sound absorption, but if you don't like the look then that doesn't matter. Actual hardwood floors will obviously have that hollow clunk when you walk on them. Engineered hardwoods have a similar sound, and aren't very durable and can't be refinished. Laminate floors that have the look of hardwood have some sound, but it is much less than hardwoods. Laminate floors also tend to be more durable. Another option is vinyl/linoleum. These don't have quite the same look as the aforementioned floors, but they can be more durable and tend to have more of the sound quality you seem to be seeking. Look for something that is nice and thick that has a good warranty (resilient against common stains, doesn't tear or stretch, between 10-20 yrs). You may be able to find a store that guarantees that you will like the floor once down in your house or they will remove it and replace it with something else in the first X days (at our local Carpet One it's 90 days). Good luck; I hope you find something that works for you.
