What is floating floor and what is screed?
Is there any diff between these two? How is their construction? doaes floating floor have screed? basicly I want a wood finished floor, but someone told me you cannot have wood finish on screed coz its not flat enough and the connection is going to be hard? is that right?

Ok here goes, floor screed is in fact a type of concrete that levels ands smooths lumpy and uneven floor surfaces. A floating floor is something that doesn't need to be fixed to the floor underneath it, for example click and lock laminate flooring etc hope this helps. Your friend is wrong, but to put wooden flooring on top of screed you'll need a good cushion type underlay.
What can I do to remove the humidity from my huge 2 bedroom "carpeted" basement?
Last year I bought a house and now we are suffering from the terrible humidty in the basement. There is no mold or show...the humidity is the problem.
The previous owner "glued" the wall to wall carpeting to the cement floor.
I would like to know if a dehumidifer will be do the job or should I take out the carpeting totally and lay a floating floor throughout?
That's a pretty bad situation. Humidity passes easily through concrete, and if the area is humid, that means that water vapor is coming in from the walls AND floors. You may not be able to see the mold, but I bet it's already underneath the carpet and on the negative side of the drywall, if you have drywall.
The humidity will build up under the carpet, and mold can grow on the carpet and glue very easily- in time, the glue is going to come loose.
If you want a sub floor under your next carpet, make sure it's completely inorganic- those wood chip tiles they sell at hardware stores right now can still collect humidity on the wood, as the wood extends outwards. Make sure the sub floor does not adhere to the floor, does not trap moisture underneath it, and creates a total vapor barrier- not a vapor retarder- on the floor. I lined to a good article on floor matting in the sources.
A dehumidifier is a great idea, but be careful when you shop around. There are models as much as ten times more energy-efficient than the ones usually sold at hardware stores. Try to find one that's energy-star rated to be sure it's good and won't cost you a fortune on electricity.
