Installing Free Floating Laminate Wood Floors?
I am a first time home owner looking to install the free floating laminate flooring myself. I was wondering if anyone else did this and has success stories, horror stories, or advice.
We are looking to cover roughly 800 square feet. I have ambition, patience, and the will to do projects myself but lack the experience. I will take any advice you are willing to share. Thanks in advance!
1. Ask the sales rep lots of questions about the specific flooring that you are purchasing. Not all laminates are made the same.
2. Read the guidelines on edge spacing VERY carefully. If it says it needs a 3/8" gap all he way around, make sure it is there. This is used for expansion and contraction. It is also the first thing checked by a warranty inspector.
3. Don't assume your walls are straight. Use a chalk line. Make sure you have at least the recommended gap. Not more than the width of your trim or else you have to make some crazy cuts.
4. Make sure the flooring is running away from any windows. That will make the seams less apparent. If you don't care, or the seams are already apparent, V-grove click lock or such, ignore this step.
5. Cheap laminate installed well is better than expensive solid wood installed poorly.
6. Don't use a framing hammer to knock pieces into place. Rubber mallet works wonders at not breaking the flooring.
management is saying no hard wood floors?
even though i can just seal the cracks in the bottom layer of floor and put on a floating floor. i haven't told them this plan yet, but it would not hurt anything. it may be easier than carpet anyways. why would they say no when what they have instaled is pretty much a mess. i simply want to update and clean the floors and just put on a different layer.
how do i tell them this. i'm in a townhome rental. ive been here for 2 years and if i do this updating i stay for at least a few years. otherwise i need to find a house rental and thats just more updating and i may just want to buy if i'm going to have to keep looking for new places.
just help how to ocmmunicate. let me update the **** myself.
You are RENTING, and, therefore, subject to their rules and regulations.
If you want wood floors, save your money and buy a house. Put them in there.
