If I have no intention of ever sanding and refinishing a floor, is there any disadvantage to going with engineered hardwood.
Is there any draw back with opting for floating floor, rather than nail down. I think that the former will reduce the noise level, and is aslo a lot easier to install.
I promise this floating floor is what you want reduce noise level, and easy to install no draw back you will love it.

Is it cheaper to refinish hardwood floors or buy new carpet?
The house is about 1k square foot. Most of the house has hardwood flooring (the kitchen I'm not messing with). I can get a good deal on carpet at the local independent dealer.. about $4-5/sq ft.
Should I refinish (I've never done it before and I'm not going to hire anyone), or just buy new carpet?
It does cost more than carpet to have hardwood floors refinished but well worth the money, I think. Looks nicer and adds more value to your home.
