installing hardwood floor Frequently Asked Questions
Removing appliances before installing hardwood floors?
We are moving into a house that has old appliances e.g. dishwasher, stand alone range, and fridge. We are going to install Brazilian Cherry hardwood flooring and wonder if this should be installed before or after we buy the new appliances?
If we need to do install floors first, who can I call to un-install the old appliances and haul them away? THanks!
It is better to install the flooring first, as it is more difficult to level the stove and dishwasher if the front is on the new floor but the back is not, and much harder to get the dishwasher out should it ever need to be replaced. Its not that much extra material to just complete the floor. Also check with your appliance company, as some of them will haul away the old when delivering the new.
Wanting to find first quality hardwood floors for the best price?
I am on a limited budget and had to tear my carpet out. I rescue and rehome senior dogs, and am wanting to install hardwood floors. I love the antique looking wider plankl satyle floors, and checked but to buy them from carpet store they were very expensive, does anyone know of a reliable good place to buy hardwood flooring for a reasonabe price? I spend alot of my funds on saving the dogs and that is the most important thing if I can not find floors for a good price, i will have to think of something else to do. Right now I have particle board floors. I found some mohawk pine hardwood that was handscraped that I love, but it is about 9.00 per square and that is just too expensive for me to pay.
The look you like and the wider planks are 2 strikes against a budgeted item. Both drive the cost up. Try adjusting the look you like. A standard size plank with more knots or a heavier grain look will be cheaper. Handscapped look I like too but its more laborious to make and has more waste.
If you are doing a whole house. ask for a bulk discount, the is a price break for the retailer if they order a pallet, which is usually in the 700 s/f range.
Ask for seconds in the wood you like, you ll have more scrap but the cost may or may not offset it to what your budget will allow.
