what prep.work needs to be done when installing floor tile over large cracks in concrete sub floor.?
I have tile over the foundation cracks in past and in time seem to start to form stress cracks in the tiles.All I have done is tried to fill the crack in with no results.
well the problem is the CONCRETE keeps moving.As long as you got a crack theres a place for moisture to go .You're gonna have to find an adhiesve strong enough to bond the concrete and keep it stable.You may even wanna frame and cover with plywood then go with the tile.
should I get carpet, tile, or laminate flooring in my house?
I'm buying a previously owned house and it needs new flooring but I'm not sure what kind of flooring to get. I like the idea of tile but it would get mighty cold in the winter time. Some people say that laminate is the way to go but others say that it's a lot of upkeep. I like the idea of carpet but some people say that you have to get it installed right and in certain fashions in order to hold up. I just need opinions. Thanks...
I forgot to mention... the kitchen and all bathrooms are already tile.
I have had all three in my house.
Started with carpet - it wore in the traffic areas, needed to be vaccuumed regularly, and cleaned several times a year (I had both kids and dogs).
Then I went to tile in the traffic areas.....that worked great, but eventually some of the tiles broke and needed to be replaced. I live in a warm climate, so the tiles being cold was not really a consideration.
When I needed to replace both the carpet and the tile, I went to laminate with throw rugs, and I like that best. It is as cleanable as tile, but less slippery, and gives the room a warmer look.
