When I started working as a craftsman home in southern California, had more words for different things than they could ever possibly imagine. Some of these contractors have their training on the East Coast or the Midwest, and eventually emigrated to the West Coast.

The first time I heard a carpenter asked me to install some dead wood, the carpenter had to ask what he meant. After he told me that dead wood is another word for making copies, I now had another word for my vocabulary-building arsenal. My first four years of work in the construction industry, often confused as carpenters seem out of their way to use different words to confuse me.

If you're reading a book and show you an illustration or picture of something and then use a different word to describe it, at least you can get a visual of what someone is talking. As to frame the young, there were not many photos or illustrations to using carpenters, who was working under and could only describe and identify what they were talking.

Some carpenters are for a ceiling as a loom or fall, floor beams or joists, floor plates, coating or base layer. Construction plans are also known as plans, drawings, documents or plans. The wood on the west coast is known as 1x or 2x and eastern Midwest is called into quarters. In other words, a 2 x 4 on the west coast is half an inch wide at the East Coast might be 1 inch and a quarter wide, often referred as five quarters.

One need not be confused, if you live on the west coast of the States U.S., trying to find a book that was written by someone who lives on the east coast and if you live on the East Coast, try to find a book on housing construction was written by someone on the West Coast to get a better understanding of some of the words used in the construction industry.
