What are the pros and cons of sealing ceramic tile bathroom floors?
I am wanting to know the pros and cons of sealing tile floors? If you seal the floor and grout will I ever be able to go back and clean the grout again, or is that permanent? Also, once it is sealed, does one ever have to go back and seal it again? Thanks, please let me know if there are any negatives (cons) to this issue. Thanks again.
The floor should be sealed soon after installation before it has a chance to get dirty. If you seal dirty grout it will always look dirty. It is recommended that grout be resealed every 6 months or so. There are some good aerosol sealers that are very easy to use. Just be sure to clean the floor thoroughly first. Grout will eventually get dirty no matter what you do. This happens to every tile floor. Regular resealing is the best preservation.
Can I lay laminate floors OVER my existing tile floor?
I recently bought a house and am wanting to redo the basement floors. The problem is my house was built in 1949 and I was told that there is most likely asbestos underneath the tile. I don't want to deal with removing the possible asbestos so I was curious if I could just cover the tiles with a laminate floor. I asked someone at Home Depot and they said that I could cover it with carpet (although their stores wouldn't do it) but I was curious about laminate.
Assuming this is VCT or vinyl tile.You will be perfectly fine in doing so.
Laying this over ceramic tile would not be a good idea.
