unfinished hardwood flooring Frequently Asked Questions
How do you remove white house paint from an unfinished hardwood floor?
There is a product called Goof Off...that may work!
Does it matter what brand of polyurethane I use on my new thresholds?
I have hardwood floors that were refinished a few years ago and coated with an oil based polyurethane. I don't know which kind/brand. I recently bought unfinished thresholds that I need to finish and install, what kind of poly should I use? I am assuming that it is just a poly and no stain or anything. Thanks!
I'm going to use oil based as time isn't an issue. Will the adhesive bond well with the underneath being finished? I am planning on using PL Construction Glue (strongest variety), is that a good choice? Thanks
Hi Ryan,
The bigger question is really "should I use water based or oil based poly?"
Keep in mind that while water based products will dry amazingly fast, and therefore shorten the time needed for additional coats (at least 3 on thresholds), they only cure about HALF as hard as oil based poly.
Also, don't forget to seal the bottom surfaces, as well as the end grains of them as well.
