unfinished wood flooring Frequently Asked Questions
greasy stains on unfinished wood floors - what to do?
We haven't had the funds to have the wood floors in two rooms finished. They are really dry, and apparently were never finished, varnished, or sealed by the previous owner. We have cat food everywhere because our cat is anexoric. Some of the dry cat food spilled on one of the unfinished floors, and before I found it, it created a little spot. I know cat food has lots of fat in it, and I suppose it's from that. I've tried liquid dishwashing detergent mixed with water, but that doesn't remove the spot. Any ideas? (I know we need to finish the floors, but now we have to fix this spot first anyway.) Thank you in advance.
If it s a dark black like spot , its from moisture and water from you washing it. Oak is the worst offender of turning black when it comes in contact w/ water. Sanding and finishing is the only way to get them out. You may even need the drum sander ( rented) . You should use one any way.GL
Advice on getting solid wood floor please?
Hello, we have decided to lay some solid wood flooring in our downstairs - we live in an old edwardian house and have a very long hallway and 2 reception rooms. The kitchen is already tiled, I won't be changing that/ We have a filthy carpet in one reception room (4 kids!) and ripped lino in the other and bumpy, badly fitted lino down the hall. I have decided it is time to sort this out. I need something easily cleanable and maintanable and very hard wearing, but am confused about the choice. What type of wood flooring is best? Should we get wide or narrow planks? Oiled or varnished or laquered? - if we buy unfinished is it easy to laquer? and should I allow my husband to fit it and save money or insist on a professional? Should we glue or nail it? Or would it be better to go for tiles? Any answers on this would be appreciated. Many thanks is advance.
my opinion.
its easily dented, can be scratched, and makes room sound more hollow, dont do it.
